ClickN Read Phonics
By
Mommie | October 11, 2008
The summer before my daughter entered kindergarten, I had quite the time. There were certain things she needed to know before getting into kindergarten, and one of them was her words and how to read some of them. I got a phonics set and set out helping to teach her how to read via phonics. I think it worked quite well. But now they have something way better, it’s ClickN Read!!! Read the rest of this entry »

Being a Frugal Family CEO
By
Mommie | October 9, 2008
So on Oprah yesterday she covered being frugal, or at least living within your means. It kind of floored me, as she had some people on there that honestly had no clue how to save money or tighten the spending belt. So it got me to thinking that really maybe the mainstream American family really has no idea how to do it. So here’s some tips to combat the drip effect, ones that I posted when I first started Mommies Home.net…READ THEM!
The Drip Effect is the accumulation of all the purchases you make, the small ones at least, that add up to be huge amounts. An example I love to use is my husband eating at Burger King 5 times a week for lunch. Not only was it going to make his heart explode, but it was costing us over $1,800 a year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By us switching to him taking his lunches, we are saving over $1,500 a year on just his lunches.
The point is that a $6 meal doesn’t seem like much at the time, but (drip, drip, drip) it adds up to a huge amount over time.

Looking For a Nanny Job?
By
Mommie | October 8, 2008
I always have such respect for people who have chosen the profession of caring for other peoples children. I mean I like my own kids and the ones I’m related to, plus many of the school kids, but I could never be a nanny. If you’re looking for a job doing that type of work, then read on… Read the rest of this entry »

Wii Fit, Wii Full Of Limitations
By
Mommie | October 8, 2008
Anyone who subscribes to Mommies Home.net knows that I’ve been using the Wii Fit while pregnant. While it’s becoming harder for me to find the 30 free minutes, what with my new daily cleaning schedule, my son becoming more and more of a handful each day, being pregnant and a harder focus on this website I can’t even guarantee a daily shower. But the Wii does have its place. I did see a website about a mom of 8 that had taken off this crazy amount of weight. What are my thoughts on this??

Is It To Early For A Pumpkin?
By
Mommie | October 7, 2008
Every store, every farm has their pumpkin sales operating at full capacity. Last weekend we saw about 4 pumpkin patches packed with people. My daughter keeps begging for a pumpkin, but I remember when I gave in and we got pumpkins early. They were rotten, and those things smell I tell you, by Halloween. So when should you buy a pumpkin for Halloween?

Opportunity Is Knocking, It’s Just Quiet…
By
Mommie | October 7, 2008
It’s becoming harder and harder to find a way to make money online in this economy, and honestly it’s not going to pick up anytime soon. But there’s always a silver lining in a down economy. There are opportunities, you just have to look for them.
Many people who are Ebay sellers or Amazon sellers will have an opportunity when it comes to purchasing their products, as there will be less competition for the items and the prices will be better overall. Take the sale of wholesale toys, it’s now possible to purchase more of these because so many people have to stop selling due to the economy (i.e. your competition is down). Fans May Prevent SIDS
By
Mommie | October 6, 2008

My husband sent me this link earlier today, as I always give him grief for having every fan possible on in our home. It’s a story on how the use of fans in the home may reduce the risk of SIDS up to 72%. That’s kind of insane! They site that it is such a huge drop only when it’s used in a high risk environment, like a hot room.
SIDS scared the crap out of me pretty much until my son hit a year. We did everything we could try and insure we lowered our risk. So if you have a baby, it won’t hurt to turn on a fan!
